There were 32 NFL teams represented at South Carolina Pro Day on March 27. Cincinnati Bengals coach Marvin Lewis was among the coaches who attended. A total of 18 players worked out on field-turf outdoors in 50 degree weather with 5 mph wind. The scouts who attended enjoyed the well-run pro day.
Marcus Lattimore RB (5-11 7/8, 219 pounds) – He did not do any sprints or jumps, but he did go through workout that approved by his medical team, however, Lattimore did catch the football in a stationary position. The entire South Carolina football team and Lattimore’s mother gave Lattimore a loud ovation after he completed his final workout. One scout said that as many pro days he’s attended he’s never seen a player get applauded for a workout. This kid is one of the nicest people you’ll ever come across. His mother and step father are just wonderful people. It’s unfortunate that he got hurt. He was a very, very good football player. It looks right now like he’s battled all the odds and he’s going to win and get a chance to play in the NFL. It’s unbelievable what he’s accomplished after a devastating injury in his last year at South Carolina.
Justice Cunningham TE (6-3, 251 pounds) — He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.88 and 4.87 seconds. He recorded a 35.5-inch vertical jump. He has long arms at 34 inches. He recorded 17 strength lifts. Cunningham is keeping his combine numbers. He is not a pass catcher as much as he is a blocker at tight end.
Devonte Holloman OLB (6-1, 240 pounds) – He ran the 40-yard dash once and completed it in 4.76 seconds. He recorded a 34-inch vertical jump and kept the rest of his numbers from the combine. He had a good workout.
T.J. Johnson C (6-4 ½, 309 pounds) – He ran the 40-yard dash in 5.27 and 5.23 seconds. He kept everything else from the combine. Johnson hurt his right hamstring after attempting his second 40-yard dash, which is the reason why he didn’t finish nor have positional workouts.
Ace Sanders WR (5-7, 175 pounds) — He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.55 and 4.59 seconds and recorded a 9-foot-6 broad jump. He kept everything else from the combine. Sanders worked out as a wide receiver.
D.J. Swearinger S (5-10, 205 pounds) — He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.68 and 4.65 seconds and kept everything else from the combine. Swearinger had a very, very good workout.
Devin Taylor DE (6-7 ¼, 273 pounds) –- He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.87 seconds and recorded 16 strength lifts. They worked him out as both a defensive end with his hand on the ground and a guy that plays in space. If the light ever goes on and Taylor realizes how good he can be, somebody will get a really good player.
Byron Jerideau NT (6-0, 334 pounds) – He ran the 40-yard dash in 5.16 and 5.16 seconds. He recorded a 25-inch vertical jump and a 7-foot-9 broad jump. He completed the short shuttle drill in 4.88 seconds and the three-cone drill in 7.62 seconds. He recorded an impressive 37 strength lifts. He could be a priority free agent.
